Walter, I always like to say that the types of tools and handiwork on one’s garage is a testimony to how good they are with their hands. And you are clearly very skillful in woodworking. Thanks for sharing these.

Amazing work, complicated, interesting and beautiful -- with elegant touches, eg the lights and lid that opens! In the next life, inspired by you, maybe I'll take up woodworking. Thanks

how detailed was your "sketch" or did you use a pattern or any kind of guidelines - other than your vast experience? and I love the signature ebony! and you are right about your intro phrase, or so I've found.

The sketch laid out the dimensions and the division into drawers. The curvature was determined by bending a piece of springy metal into a pleasing curve, and using that to make the press. Along the way, there were several more sketches to get particular dimensions and fits right. No detailed plan, though. No engineering-quality drawings.

You are a man of many talents, Dr. Tschinkel. That chest of drawers is a work of art, functional, and gorgeous. It’s an heirloom piece for sure.
