What a movie indeed. My stepfather Garland said they visited a tree in his yard in a boisterous flock and further said he observed one passing a berry to another!

It is always amazing to me that flocks of Waxwings can zero in on one, lone holly tree in one’s yard. Fascinating. My Yaupon awaits.

Another wonderful essay! This one brought back treasured memories of waxwing migrations through Tallahassee. The flocks' coordinated attacks on berry-laden trees often overwhelm the territorial defenses of frustrated resident mockingbirds. Sometimes, when the waxwings get into a particularly fermented batch of berries, they drop out of the foliage and stumble around the ground like drunken sailors on liberty. Very colorful birds, in many ways!
